Opening Reception for the Reconstruction Exhibition

We are pleased to announce the opening of the "Reconstruction" exhibition, which will be held at the Small Gallery of the Central Library, on 5th April 2023, at 5pm. The exhibition features student works resulting from an experiment aimed at reconstructing the 19th-century curriculum of European landscape painting, based on the Schola Graphidis art collection of the "Kisképző" Secondary School of Visual Arts.

During the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, European landscape painting flourished, and a vast range of printed teaching materials were available for academic art education. The specimen sheets, painting manuals, and student works that still survive provide valuable insights into the period's thinking, values, working methods, and learning techniques. In an effort to revive these techniques and concepts, the Watercolor Action Group of "Kisképző" organized a student art camp and associated watercolor course every summer from 2021.

The "Reconstruction" exhibition is an opportunity to showcase the students' work resulting from this experiment and to celebrate the 19th-century curriculum's revival. The Metropolitan Ervin Szabó Library cordially invites you to the exhibition, which will run until 2nd May 2023, during the library's opening hours.

Speech by Ferenc Farkas, Director of the Central Library of the Metropolitan Ervin Szabó Library.

The exhibition will be opened by Bence Madaras, President of the Board of Trustees of the Hauszmann Foundation.

The guided tour will be led by András Orr, the professional leader of the group and curator of the exhibition.
