Bookcases Make a Comeback in a New Location

Thanks to the collaboration between Erzsébetváros Municipality in District VII and the Metropolitan Ervin Szabó Library, the bookcases have been renovated and relocated to new locations! Our 'take a book, leave a book' bookcases have been refurbished and are now stocked with a wide range of books.

The handover ceremony took place on October 5, 2023, in the presence of Péter Niedermüller, the Mayor, Balázs Szűcs, the Deputy Mayor, Péter Fodor, the Director General of MESZL, and Katalin Haszonné Kiss, the Regional Director.

Numerous individuals and organizations played a role in making a broader range of reading material accessible to the residents of Erzsébetváros. This includes the Metropolitan Ervin Szabó Library, the Mayor's Office staff, Dr. Lajos Oláh, a Member of Parliament representing Terézváros and Erzsébetváros, as well as Péter Niedermüller, the Mayor of Erzsébetváros, and Deputy Mayors Tibor Kispál and Balázs Szücs, who also contributed books to the presentation. Additionally, even the children from Nefelejcs and Magonc Kindergartens brought storybooks.

Erzsébetváros residents who have a strong interest in reading can now choose books from both Reformation Memorial Park and Klauzál Square Market Hall. Taking advantage of the beautiful autumn weather, we combined the handover of the bookcase in Reformation Memorial Park with a reading promotion program. Australian-Hungarian storybook author Peter Jones delighted the children with a reading and an interactive session.

A good book can provide entertainment, provoke thought, or offer new knowledge, which is why reading offers numerous benefits. In Erzsébetváros, in addition to the public bookcases, the local district government also supports residents who wish to read by providing a 50% discount for library enrollment at select branches of the Metropolitan Ervin Szabó Library. You can also apply the discount when obtaining a pass that grants access to all MESZL branch libraries.

The discount is available at the following libraries when you present an identity card and an address card, provided that you have a permanent address or residence in the VII district:
Central Library (1088 Budapest, Szabó Ervin tér 1.)
Ferenc Deák Library (1074 Budapest, Rottenbiller u. 10.)
Boulevard Library (1066 Budapest, Teréz körút 2-4.)

Take advantage of this opportunity and experience the joy of reading!
