Introduction by Dr. Monika Tóth, curator:

"For many of us, our fascination with Korean culture began through historical dramas such as "The Jewel of the Palace," "The Crown Prince," or "Secrets of the Royal House." These mesmerizing productions showcased exquisite paintings amidst splendid settings, featuring traditional depictions of flowers, birds, and butterflies.

Through the Korean Cultural Centre's courses, we were also able to learn and practice Minhwa and Sagunja painting. Erzsi Kondorosi also studied here. Now, his beautiful Minhwa-style paintings (freely created after old original paintings) are on display.

Minhwa literally means "painting of the people." Favorite subjects include stones, water, bugs, flowers, birds, butterflies, and other animals.

Among these, the captivating art of depicting flowers and birds is known as Hwajodo—a time-honored tradition in East Asia that gained popularity in Korea during the late Joseon period and the 20th century.

The centerpiece of the exhibition (also featured on the poster) is "Curious Birds."
