Some sections of the Central Library collection are relocated

a szociológiai gyűjtemény termeIn the past year, the readers of Central Library may have noticed in the library areas that long shelf-sections are temporarily emptied then filled up with new books. During the summer closing, this relocation process has ended, resulting in a large increase in the numbers of books available for loan on the shelves. Also, taking into account the needs of our users, many of the books, which could only be used locally before, became available for loan. This change also affected the names of our areas. This article is a short summary of the collection locations.

On the ground floor, the Browsing Area is operating the same way, however, the language learning books have been relocated to the second floor. As a result, we created more space for entertainment literature (romance, crime, fantasy, etc.).

The Free Access area on the second floor is now called the Selection Area. There are two major changes here: 1. the language learning books can be found in the linguistics section. 2. the sociology-social sciences section, tagged with numbers 300-398 in the DDC, was relocated to the fourth floor. In the Selection Area, modern and classic literature is still available and also the full spectrum of the scienctific books (art, religion, philosophy, applied sciences, history, etc.) except for the social sciences.

On the third floor, on the mezzanine we created a General Reading Area - previously known as Literature Reading Room. This area is a quiet zone, contains a selection of books only available for local use and picked from every scientific section from 0 to 9 of DDC - except for the social sciences.

On the fourth floor, the full collection of sociology and social science books can be found, including all available for loan and for local use only books, serving the tasks of a national specialized library. The DDC numbering system for the books available for loan starts with number 300 in the Sociology Collection (SZGY) to the right of the elevator then continues with 320 in the outer area. To the left of the elevator, in the Social Sciences Selection Area (TTV) the books continue with number 330 then run along the walls, finishing with 398. In this same area - added to the periodicals already residing here - the daily papers and magazines can be found. The  sociology and social sciences books for local use only - a thin red line on their covers - are placed on the L-shaped shelving unit connecting the two areas.

On the fifth, sixth and eights floors, in the Dragon Children's Library and in the palace rooms no changes have occurred, they are available for our readers in the same way as previously.

During the above relocation, the employees of Central Library have held and moved close to 100 000 documents between the six floors.
