The Man Who Helped Save the Titanic Survivors
With our latest temporary exhibition, we pay tribute to the memory of Dr. Árpád Lengyel, one of the Hungarian heroes involved in the rescue efforts following the Titanic disaster. As the ship's doctor aboard the Carpathia, he helped care for 705 survivors.
In April 1912, Dr. Árpád Lengyel was serving aboard the Carpathia when the ship became the first to respond to the Titanic's distress calls. During the rescue operation, he played a vital role in caring for the survivors, and his name has since become forever linked to one of history's most famous maritime disasters.
The exhibition, titled "The Man Who Helped Save the Titanic Survivors - Dr. Árpád Lengyel," will be on display at the Library of Sétáló utca through July 15, 2026.
