The history of the Library

The library was opened in a building sharing with the Budapest Cultural Centre, in the centre of Kelenföld, 11th disctrict, in 1979. It is the successor of the library in the Szörényi street, which was the third library opened in the first years of the last decade. It had a uniquely rich collection of fine arts. and its gems are still here on the shelves of the library’s reading room. What are we offering? A rich collection on huge floor area with good accessibility, a wide range of services, opportunity to read here in the library, a friendly environment which reminds the homey atmosphere of the last decades. We offer a wide range of documents : printed documents, CDs, DVDs, audio books, educational packages. The journal reading section is in front of the rental, administrative area near the entrance. Entertaining books, naturopathy, computer science, travelling, family, horticulture, cookbooks, etc. are all in thematic sections. In the childrens’ section 14 000 volumes, 4 kind of periodicals, cartoons, CDs, are all available. We help finding books, using manuals. Children are welcome for library lessons, and courses. Registration is by appointment via phone or in person. There is a separate room available in the library for events, fine art exhibitions, meetings and lectures.
