László Remete Dr (1919-2016)
László Remete began working for Metropolitan Ervin Szabó Library in 1949 and he worked there until his retirement. First, he was the scientific researcher of Budapest Collection, later he was the leader of Reader's service. He was one of the founders of Documentation Department of Sociology in 1973; now it is called Sociology Collection.
He was the author of the first great monography of library history written about the Library; he was the librarian who identified Ervin Szabó's oeuvre as a librarian and sociologist, with the value of source history; bibliography of Ervin Szabó and his correspondence as well as the omnibus volume were also published as the result of Remete's work. His volumes of portraits of the great personalities of Metropolitan Ervin Szabó Library serve as gap fillers.
He launched and edited the multi-volumed bibliography series of the history of sociology that have quality award of the Academy as well; it is the bibliography series of biographies of internationally known Hungarian sociologists; he also had main role in publishing repertories which served as gap fillers.
Under his leadership the Documentation Department of Sociology was a real workshop. He made strong co-operation with the Institute of Sociology and the Institute of History considering source publications, by editing and publishing them.
His excellent knowledge of languages facilitated to review the most important international literature of sociology and library science. Some new information services were introduced by him in Hungary, he was a kind of pioneer in that field, due to his information acquisition (on international literature).
He supported the career entrants; they were taken up by him and he gave them inspirational tasks. His mentality to strive for new things again and again, his positive attitude as a researcher and his precision as a librarian considering bibliographies make special alloy and are handed down to some generations of librarians who worked with him.
