Ilona Liskó  (1944-2008)

Ilona Liskó, the prominent representative of sociology of education  and policy of education died unexpectedly, when she was 64 years old. She started her career in the 1970s; from 1981 she worked as a staff member of the institutes of education research. she was the founder member of the Subcommittee on sociology of education of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.  As a sociologist of education, she struggled for the realization of equal social opportunities; she also fought against segregation in the field of school education and reproduction of social differences.
She was convinced that education and schools had basic role in the development of knowledge based society which could eliminate family and financial differences. She showed society's responsibility for providing the criteria of  livable environment and family-centred and child-centred family policy.
She was a reserved woman for whom meaningful work was the most important factor in her career.

Her death is a huge loss both professionally and humanly.
