School community service at the Metropolitan Ervin Szabó Library

High school students have the opportunity to perform in community service at any branch library within the Metropolitan Ervin Szabó Library. The library happily accepts students from schools that have established prior contractual agreements with it. The library continuously expands the circle of participating schools.

Students can also choose from a range of activities, depending on the library where they want to do their community service.

Activities at the branch libraries:
  • Preparing the returned books for reclassification back into the library's order.
  • Providing assistance to individual readers, with a particular focus on the older age group, in their internet usage.
  • Creating book recommendations for Facebook and producing videos related to library subjects.
  • Taking part in local history projects.
  • Assisting in the preparation of preschool and crafts activities.
  • Reading stories to children in the children's library section.
  • Binding periodicals and books.
  • Providing support in organizing and coordinating events.
  • Applying magnetic strips to books and repairing damaged inscriptions.
  • Assisting with the sale and preparation of used books.
Activities at the Central Library:
  • Managing the pre-order of returned books behind the circulation desk.
  • Sorting books thrown into the boxes by room and subject.
  • Providing information and assistance at the self-service book checkout.
  • Scanning press cuttings in the Budapest Collection.
  • Assisting in fulfilling stock requests.
  • Searching for books and sheet music in the Music Collection.
  • Arranging the open shelf stock.
  • Providing assistance to individual readers, with a particular focus on the older age group, in their internet usage.
  • Assisting the preparation and organization of events at Ötpacsirta Salon.
  • Contributing to the organization of children's library programs.
  • Creating social media content (Facebook, Instagram, moly.hu) to promote reading.

Dóra Francsek, the Communications Officer, carries out the conclusion of contracts with schools and the related administrative tasks.
