Professional biography

portrait of Kovácsné Koreny ÁgnesÁgnes Kovácsné Koreny was born in 1971 in Ózd. She graduated from Attila József High School then started her university studies in 1989 on the Faculty of Humanities of ELTE (Eötvös Loránd University). In 1994, she received an advanced certified degree of Library Science and in 1995, a lecturer degree of Hungarian Language and Literature; in 2002, she acquired her qualification as Advanced Advertising and Marketing Manager and in 2011 as Public Administration Communication Expert. She has a basic and professional license in public administration; in 2012, she completed the accredited, four-module Head Librarian course of the Hungarian Library Institute.

From autumn of 2015, she is a student of the PHD School of Literature in ELTE Faculty of Humanities. During the Library Science PHD Program the subject of her research: Designing community-led libraries by examining the mutual interactions of public library functions, library areas and the use of space by library users.

In 2019, she completed the course of Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME) called Design Thinking. Design strategies not just for designers.  

She acquired professional experience in Hungarian and international environments, in reference libraries, embassies, the Office of the Parliament and Metropolitan Ervin Szabó Library.  

She started her career in the library of the Hungarian Academy of Science in 1993. Between 1996 and 2004, she is an employee of the Information Manager of the Hungarian Delegation of the European Commission, European Union. From 2004, she began working in the Office of the National Assembly, first in the Library of the Hungarian Parliament then as the head of their Public Service Office. From 12th May 2014 to 28th February 2024, she was the Deputy Director General of Metropolitan Ervin Szabó Library.  

She had expressed her professional interest as an author of several studies and as a regular attendee and lecturer of conferences and training courses. Between January 2011 and December 2012 she was the representative of the Library of the Hungarian Parliament during the international library cooperation called Europeana Libraries. She participated in the execution and management of the project called "Digitalizált Törvényhozási Tudástár" /Digitalised Legislation Repository/ (EKOP-2.1.5-09-2009-001); and in the planning of the program called My library, as part of the project called "Múzeumi és könyvtári fejlesztések mindenkinek" /Museum and library developments for everyone/ (EFOP-3.3.3-VEKOP-16-2016-00001).  

Since February 2016, she has been running a library science blog called Librarian Day by Day. In spring of 2023, her e-book, written for the request of the Hungarian Library Institute, was published, which was titled "Az ötlettől a megvalósításig: felhasználóvezérelt innováció a könyvtárban" /From idea to execution: user-led innovation in the library/.  

She is a member of the Association of Hungarian Librarians. Between 1998 and 2000, she had been the Secretary General of the association.  

Since February of 2021, as requested by EMMI (Ministry of Human Capacities), she has been a member of the Committee of Library Accreditation; her commission is until 31st December 2027. In the beginning of 2024, she received a request to become a member of the editor committee for the Central European Library And Information Science Review. 

Based on her application, the City Council of Budapest made the unanimous decision to elect her as the Director General of Metropolitan Ervin Szabó Library from 29th February 2024 to 28th February 2029, as per Regulation 751/2023. (IX. 27.).
