Water-Inspired Art: Mária Antalné Gémesi's Solo Exhibition

This is not the first time Mária Gémesi has exhibited in our library. Her current exhibition of paintings is inspired by water. The exhibition will remain open until the end of October 2023, during the regular opening hours of the Library of Bíró Mihály utca. We welcome all visitors!

Quoting from the exhibitor's introduction: "I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the Metropolitan Ervin Szabó Library for granting me the privilege of hosting my solo exhibition at this venue for the fifth year running. Within my exhibition, you will find a curated collection of my landscape paintings from recent years, each of which beautifully portrays different aspects of natural water.

For the regular visitors to the library, some of them may appear familiar because I have been painting this theme every year for the past 13 years, making it unmissable for me.

Ever since I was a child, Lake Balaton has held a special place in my heart. Fifty years ago, my parents acquired a property in Révfülöp, and it has since become an integral part of our family's existence. From Vörösdomb, we can enjoy the picturesque mountains of the Balaton Uplands and the view of the lake. In every season, we can appreciate the magical beauty of this healing landscape, the interplay of light and clouds around Badacsony. We are captivated by the unique colors of the storm clouds and the changing opal green waters of Lake Balaton, as if we were seeing them for the first time.

Another 'great love' of mine is the sea. I saw it for the first time when I was 20 years old, and since then, I have been traveling to admire it whenever I can. This summer, I was fortunate enough to spend a week in Croatia at a creative camp, where I painted several pictures using oil and watercolor techniques. You can see them on display here at the exhibition.

This year, I successfully completed my studies in the state-supported two-year painting training course at SZÁMALK-Salesian Post-Secondary Institute. Of course, I also chose Balaton as the subject of my final exam work.

In my paintings, to the delight of both myself and others, I love to depict not only storm clouds but also sunsets, bright blue skies, waterfront wildlife, rocks, and the surrounding mountains and forests."
