The history of the library

The entrance of the buildingOur library is the oldest in the 17th District. First it opened on 78 Pesti road in 1951. During the renovations of Rákoskeresztúr, the building was demolished in 1977, and most of the stock was put in storage in the basement for years. A couple smaller branches operated in Lemberg street, on the Csabagyöngye beach and in the Dózsa Community Center (currently: Sándor Vigyázó Community Center).
In December 1984, the library was reopened in Újlak street on 320 m2, “temporarily” in the elementary school.
The library operated there for 22 years, then in June 2006 it moved to the Fuchs-castle in the center of the 17th District, where it is still operating on approx. 300 m2.
