Netrevalók: Secondary Students Aid Seniors in the Digital World

An elderly person and a young person in front of a computerThe strategic goal of the Metropolitan Ervin Szabó Library is to promote the acquisition and development of digital literacy and to foster an understanding of digital culture through various initiatives, services, and programs. We consider it particularly important for the elderly to become acquainted with and gain access to the opportunities offered by technology. However, many of them need support and guidance for this reason.

That's why we initiated the Netrevalók program in partnership with Telekom. In this program, secondary school students introduce the elderly to digital solutions tailored to their knowledge and interests, providing real help in their everyday lives.

The free Netrevalók sessions are held in Budapest at 25 designated branches of the Metropolitan Ervin Szabó Library, once a month on the second Wednesday, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

Important: Due to the shortened summer opening hours and seasonal closures of the MESZL libraries, the Netrevalók programs will not be available every month.

Please read our article about summer opening hours here.

The sessions, depending on the interests and needs of the elderly, encompass a range of topics, including the social media usage, online communication and administration, internet safety, e-books, entertainment, hobbies, transportation, travel planning, photo editing and digital photography, health, and sports. Each session offers a chance to collectively explore topics of interest for older individuals, using the smart devices they already carry in their pockets but may not yet fully understand.

Students and seniors can sign up online for Netrevalók program sessions through the Telekom Hello Parent platform at www.helloszulo.hu/netrevalok after registering.
