Exhibition of the Embassy of Brazil in Budapest and the St. Anton Museum at the Metropolitan Ervin Szabó Library
The Metropolitan Ervin Szabó Library, the Embassy of Brazil in Budapest and the St. Anton Museum (Slovakia) are pleased to invite you to the exhibition "Secret Prints", a collection of copies of engravings printed in Augsburg (Germany). These engravings were created between 1719 (Berlin) and 1765 (Jerusalem) and portray panoramic views (vedute) of several major cities during the 18th century. Most of the artworks were made by Friedrich Bernhard Werner, military engineer and topographer.
This historical and architectural treasure was accidentally discovered in the Koháry-Coburg Palace (Sväty Anton) in 1960 during the restoration of the family's gallery. Two Brazilian princesses were part of the Koháry-Coburg family: Maria da Glória, daughter of Emperor D. Pedro I, and Leopoldina, daughter of Emperor D. Pedro II.
From the 123 engravings found, only 30 have been restored, whose copies will be exhibited at the Central Library of the Metropolitan Ervin Szabó Library (1088 Budapest, Reviczky u. 1.), from 26th January to 23rd February, 2023 in opening hours.
The originals remained at the Koháry-Coburg palace, which hosts the Hunting and Fishing Museum of St. Anton, Slovakia.
