"The human figure is the most frequent subject of my work. I usually create my sculptures from steel or wood. I juxtapose constructive forms, raw metal sheets, and various industrial profiles with organically applied material, using techniques reminiscent of modelling, as well as grinding. I carve my wooden sculptures from a single log. Sometimes I combine the two materials and their respective techniques. With one or two exceptions, my sculptures and drawings depict anthropomorphic and zoomorphic figures. I am fascinated by the boundaries of recognisability. Stains, splotches, peeling plaster, and natural formations often serve as sources of inspiration. I frequently use the faces I discern in abstract, amorphous shapes as a starting point. I find the process through which two-dimensional works give rise to three-dimensional objects, and vice versa, particularly exciting. I cannot imagine my sculptural works without their graphic precursors. My themes include everyday life, human relationships, eroticism, the depiction of extreme emotions, portraits created from life or memory, heads, the human body and torso, mythical creatures, allegorical figures, and the notion of transience." - Tamás Drabik
